Singapore

Singapore has a new water recycling plant, a new reservoir in front of its historic city center and a conservation campaign which will boost the city's scarce water supply.

Heavily dependent on water piped in from neighboring Malaysia -- with whom relations have been testy at times -- Singapore has embarked on a "four tap" strategy to diversify its water sources which include rainfall catchment, water from Malaysia, recycled waste water and desalination.

In September, Singapore opened Asia's largest water desalination plant, whose 30 million gallon production capacity added 10 percent to the city-state's capacity.
