Iowa DNR

In an effort to inspire Iowa residents to clean up their waterways, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will unveil an eight-foot high statue made of trash pulled from the state's rivers. The artwork is shaped like a giant water droplet.

It will go on display at state offices near the Iowa Capitol just in time for Earth Day. It's the second year the agency has unveiled a trash sculpture. The sculpture honors volunteers who take part in Project AWARE, an annual river cleanup. Volunteers spend a week canoeing Iowa's waterways, cleaning them of debris and making a public stand for water quality. Learn More.
