Herrington Lake

Environmental crews descended on a Kentucky Lake, trying to find out just how much damage a gasoline spill caused.
With cleanup work on Herrington Lake complete, crews worked to get a handle on as much as one thousand gallons of gasoline that spilled into the lake near the Garrard-Mercer County line.

The cleanup kept most people off the lake for two days. Some lakeside residents were alerted by the smell of the gasoline, others were unaware anything was wrong until hours later. With the leak in the pipe closed, the job of assessing any long term environmental damage will take months.
