Eurasian Watermilfoil

Got too many weeds around the house? Your options include hiring someone to weed the yard and herbicide, or doing the dirty work yourself.

But what if the problem is under water?

Watermilfoil is an invasive plant that can threaten the ecology of an ecosystem, milfoil can be an expensive pest to deal with. Options include winter drawdowns, using herbicide, harvesting the plant or using sterile grass carps to feed on it.

Variables within the bodies of water, such as depth and rate of flow, usually dictate a treatment. Grant money for studies and experimental treatments are available only for lakes that have statewide public access.

Milfoil is not native to North America. It reproduces quickly, though, and is easily spread by unwashed boat trailers.
