Kite Tubes

For the second time in five days, a lake in Michigan recorded a water accident involving kite tubes.

Chelsey Omilian, 15, of Lake Orion was recovering in Crittenton Hospital after an accident involving a kite tube, an inflatable device used to tow its riders on water and 6 feet or higher into the air behind a speeding boat.

She suffered a bruised lung and liver after falling 25 feet into the lake. Her father, who towed her behind his 20-foot speedboat, pulled her unconscious from the water and revived her with CPR.

On July 4, a 42-year-old Waterford Township woman was hospitalized with temporary paralysis after puncturing an ear drum in a kite tube accident on Union Lake. Kite tubes are under fire around the country. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued warnings about their use after two deaths and 12 serious accidents.
