Mollusks

Two classes of mollusks occur in fresh water-gastropoda (snails and limpets) and pelecypoda (clams and mussels). As a group, mollusks are soft body animals usually enclosed in a shell of calcium carbonate that they secrete. The muscular part of gastropods extends outside of the shell, like a foot; and they commonly have radula, a rasping tongue. Mostly vegetarian, gastropods eat microscopic algae attached to underwater structures.
