Lake Champlain
A new study shows new pollutants ranging from caffeine to insect repellent mixing in Lake Champlain or its tributaries. The pollutants are well below toxic levels, though. Researchers meeting at the Lake Champlain Research Consortium also reported that less oxygen is being measured in the lake.
They believe that is part of the reason for the toxic algae blooms that have plagued the northern parts of the lake.
Also on the rise are chloride levels, thanks to road salt washing into the water.
