A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' project covering 31,000 acres, with 13,250 acres of water surface, Harlan County is Nebraska's second largest lake. It is located in the south-central part of the state, seven miles from the Nebraska/Kansas state line. Harlan County Lake is about nine miles long and has 75 miles of shoreline. The Corps maintains six established campgrounds, with the entire project open to public access. During the winter months, hundreds of Bald Eagles can be seen on the lake.
