Clinton Lake is on the western edge of Lawrence, Kansas and has a drainage area of 367 sq. miles and 85 miles of shoreline. The lake was created by the construction of the Clinton Dam, and the 35 square miles of land and water is maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Flood Control Act of 1962 authorized construction of the dam and lake, and funds were allocated for the project in 1971. The Wakarusa River is the primary source of inflowing water.
