Oil Drilling in the Great Lakes

A Republican Michigan lawmaker is touting something that his Democratic counterparts hail as a threat to the Great Lakes. Representative Tim Walberg recently proposed the idea of tapping oil resources in the Great Lakes much to the dismay of others.

According to Public Interest Research Group In Michigan, oil drilling in the Great Lakes “would have significant long-term and short-term negative impacts on the lake's watershed, regardless of the drilling method employed.” Their analysis demonstrates oil drilling in the Great Lakes has potential negative impacts on human health, the environment and the economy.
