Bottled Water Under Fire
The City of New York and other cities across the United States are trying to persuade people to give up bottled water and consume water from their taps instead. This decision protects the environment and is economical as well. New York has even launched an advertising campaign to promote the cause, with local restaurants encouraged to join.
Up to four out of five plastic water bottles end up in landfill sites around the U.S. and the production process contributes to global warming. The distribution process of this readily available local product sometimes involves shipping water halfway around the world.
The Bottled Water Association believes it is unfair to single out an industry that is promoting recycling and introducing biodegradable packaging.
