Freshwater Clam

freshwater%20clam.JPG

Freshwater clams include species that live in mud and sand of lakes and streams, but are rarely found in water over six feet deep. Two openings are located at each end of the shell. One siphon takes in water, which contains food and oxygen; and the other carries away waste. Some clams will live as parasites during their larval stage on the fins or gills of fishes.
