Water Conditions
Boating and water skiing on the lakes this holiday weekend does not look promising for much of the Midwest. With flood conditions in the southern regions to the drought in the north, water levels are either looking too high or too low.
Also debris, bacteria and other pollutants could be in the waters from last week's floods. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency just started gathering samples from some lakes and streams. Since it is hard to tell what dumped into lakes with the runoff, they're telling people to be careful.
In Madison, Wisconsin high water will force boaters and personal watercraft users to slow down and not create any wake that could damage shoreline property and homes. The last time such a restriction was in place was 2000. A no-wake zone of 500-feet from shore had been in place since August 22nd.
The new limit will be in place on the whole Yahara chain of lakes. Violators could face a $160 fine.
