New Water Quality Standards

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's proposed rules relating to chapter 7050 contain water quality standards. The existing rule is being divided into two chapters (7050 and 7053) to improve clarity. Two other chapters (Minnesota Rules, Chapters 7056 and 7065) will have relevant provisions moved to the new rules and the obsolete portions repealed.

Major changes that are being proposed include: standards for assessing the impairment of water quality in lakes, modification of the 1 mg/L phosphorus effluent limit (the Phosphorus Rule) to new or expanding discharges, adding a standard for mercury found in fish, and adding new standards for acetochlor and metolachlor .
