Lakes in Southern Illinois

Rainfall is 7½ inches less than normal for this time of year in the southern part of Illinois; some municipalities in the area might need to supplement their main water supply.

Rend Lake is more than a foot low, but will likely not pose a problem in providing service to 60 communities. The area could get by without any rain for an extended period, since Rend Lake was made to help eliminate drought problems.

Kinkaid Lake water level is down about three feet, but it will still be providing water for the communities it serves. The Big Muddy River also has dropped considerably in water depth.
