Commercialization of Great Lakes Water
The Nestle Company has been allowed to pump 218,000 gallons per minute of groundwater headed for Lake Michigan. This commercialization of fresh Great Lakes water by Nestle allows them to ship more than 114 billion gallons per year. In addition to Nestle, the City of Detroit has also entered into commercial water contracts with Coke and Pepsi to bottle and ship substantial amounts of Great Lakes water.
