Lake Winnipeg and Lake Simcoe

Canada wants additional money to clean up pollution in one of the largest lakes in the country. Wastewater and chemicals have been flowing into Lake Winnipeg for years causing algal blooms.

The government wants to invest $18 million over five years for projects aimed at improving water quality and reduce the number of blooms. The goal is to ensure a sustainable inland fishery and provide a clean lake for recreation. Ottawa is also spending $12 million over two years to clean up Lake Simcoe, and $11 million over two years to improve the Great Lakes.
