Muskegon Harbor

Muskegon's harbor is a deep-water port where 1,000-foot lake freighters are a frequent sight. In 2007, two 1,000-foot freighters were stuck in the lake bottom at the harbor entrance.

Muskegon's harbor, which normally requires dredging every two to three years, is in need of it again. The harbor was last dredged in 2004 and lake levels are so low, that the entrance, which normally provides 29 feet of clearance, has been reduced to 24 feet in spots because of shoaling.
