The Goose Problem

Development throughout North America has resulted in the creation of ideal goose habitat conditions. Geese love large open areas with short grass, adjacent to lakes or ponds. These habitat conditions have created rapidly growing populations of locally breeding geese to live year round on golf courses, parks, and lawns of lakefront property.

In parks and other open areas near lakes, large flocks trample and eat vegetation and buffer zones that are crucial to watersheds. Goose droppings in heavy concentrations can over fertilize lawns, contribute to excessive algae growth in lakes that result in fish kills, and potentially contaminate municipal water supplies.
