Record Lows on Great Lakes Nearing

Lake water levels in Michigan and Huron briefly dipped below the record low last week according to federal monitoring data. The reading from a testing gauge on Lake Huron was not a record because the level must be sustained over a one-month period.

Great Lakes water levels fluctuate in long cycles spanning roughly 30 years. But, water levels in Lake Michigan, Huron and Superior have been dropping steadily over the past decade.
