SB 197-Preventing Stinky Lakes

Algae-choked lakes may get help from a bill making its way through the legislature in Wisconsin. The SB 197 “Preventing Stinky Lakes" will prohibit the sale and residential application of fertilizer containing phosphorus to turf in Wisconsin except in certain circumstances.

Banning residential fertilizer is one step in restoring the health and beauty of Wisconsin lakes. Lakes around the state have annual blue-green algae blooms, and the rise of blooms further north have many around the state alarmed.
