Lake Mead and Lake Powell Running Dry

Lake Mead and Lake Powell may be dry by 2021 unless changes take place in the watershed. Growing population and global warming could wipe out the lakes according to scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Changes could include boosting the price of water to reflect its true value, requiring xeriscaping for homes and commercial centers, and growing less water-intensive crops and using updated irrigation techniques.
