Minnesota Towns Releasing Raw Sewage

A report by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency shows 100 communities in Minnesota are illegally releasing raw sewage into lakes, rivers and ditches. The problem is worst in southern Minnesota, where 29 rural communities release untreated waste through outdated sewage systems that lead to waterways.

In more than 60 other places, individual homes are believed to flush wastes into pipes that flow into rivers, ditches, drain tiles or lakes. These homes are in rural towns and lake communities where there is no water treatment plant.
