Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Compact

New York State will join other Great Lakes states and Canadian provinces to protect and improve the watershed of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin. Legislation authorizing New York's participation in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact was signed on March 4, 2008.

The Compact will prohibit most diversions of water from the watershed, while preserving existing diversions, withdrawals, uses, rights and agreements.
