Keeping VHS Out of Lake Superior
The National Park Service is joining with an American Indian tribe in an effort to keep VHS out of Lake Superior. Viral hemorrhagic septicemia is the cause of fish kills in the other Great Lakes and other lakes across the country.
The plan is to restrict the use of fish bait within the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Grand Portage National Monument, Isle Royale National Park and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore waters that could carry the virus, and prohibit exchange of ballast water within the parks boundaries.
