Great Lakes Cutters

The Coast Guard has its hands full with ice on the Great Lakes this year. Officials believe they have not seen a year like this in the basin in over a decade. Cutters are still breaking ice on the lakes, trying to maintain routes for ship traffic.

Eight cutters are currently breaking ice on the lakes. The cutters have already assisted nearly 160 ships through ice up to 20 feet thick in some areas.
