Isle Royale Moose and Wolves
A research project on Isle Royale has found gains in the moose and wolf populations in the past year. The study found that the number of wolves on Lake Superior’s largest island have increased from 21 in 2007 to 23 in 2008 and grew from three to four packs. Close to 385 moose were found on the island last year compared to 650 this year.
The 50-year-old study analyzes the effects of climate and weather, parasites, disease, forest changes and time on the populations.
