New Rules For Great Lakes Fishermen
New anti-terrorism rules from the Department of Homeland Security are in place for the Great Lakes, and have many Charter Captains in the watershed quite angry. Those planning to use a Charter service to fish have to bring with them either a passport or two other forms of ID if planning to cross the invisible U.S. border of each lake.
Some fishermen will be required to drive to a local government reporting station, where they will have to pose for pictures for Customs officers. Operators wishing to continue fishing in Canadian waters may be forced to Fax in passengers' personal information to the local Customs and Border Protection office an hour before they leave shore.
