The International Upper Great Lakes Study

The International Upper Great Lakes Study covers lakes Superior, Huron, Michigan and Erie and the St. Mary’s, St. Clair, Detroit and Niagara rivers and Lake St. Clair.

The results will be ready by 2011 with recommendations to the International Joint Commission, although some results could be ready by 2009-10. The International Joint Commission wants to know whether changing the rules and laws on how dams and gates are operated might help buffer or change large water level fluctuations on the lakes. Also, how these changes may impact the ecosystem and economies that rely on the lakes.
