Fighting Sea Lampreys
With sea lamprey numbers increasing in the Great Lakes, agencies throughout the watershed are trying to use chemicals to stop the parasites at the larval stage in many rivers. Rivers that feed Lake Erie and Lake Michigan are being treated this summer with TFM, to fight the sea lamprey. The invasive species can destroy fish populations. One single lamprey can prey on 40 pounds of fish in 18 months.
