Stopping the Round Goby

Scientists from the USGS have discovered certain chemicals (Bayluscide and antimycin) that may be useful in slowing the spread of the round goby. The goby is a invasive fish species that is threatening the Great Lakes and other inland lakes and rivers. When released near the bottom of a river or lake, Bayluscide and antimycin are effective in controlling the goby, particularly where dissolved oxygen is low, while leaving native species unharmed.
