New Berlin Readies For Lake Michigan Water
New Berlin, Wisconsin is about to become the first town partially outside the Lake Michigan watershed to receive drinking water from the lake, since the Great Lakes Water Compact passage. New Berlin is paying a one-time payment of $1.5 million dollars to Milwaukee for usage of the water. The permit is in the review stage, and after 30 days New Berlin should be using water from the lake. Almost all the water used will be returned to the MMSD.
