Phosphorus and New York

Gov. David Paterson of New York has submitted a bill to the state Legislature that would ban the sale of dishwashing soap and lawn fertilizer with phosphorus. The law would go a long way to improving the water quality of lakes, streams and rivers in the state. Research has found that over 60 bodies of water in the state are impaired by the chemical. The law could be in place by the first part of 2010.
