Brazilian Elodea

Brazilian Elodea may be spreading across ponds and lakes of the Midwest. The South American plant used in aquariums has been recently found in two ponds in Illinois. The plant is very aggressive and can overtake other aquatic plants, much like Eurasian Milfoil. It is rare for the plant to survive the cold winters, but one population in Minnesota made it through a milder winter.
